Demos and Dock Chats

There are demonstrations and informational chats for every member of the family...young or older.  Among them are techniques in net fishing,  and net hanging and a fascinating look at the life cycle of a blue crab.  Commercial and charter boat captains are scattered along the docks showing their boats and demonstrating their equipment, and fishing techniques.

10:-10:15: Welcome, Lynne Foster

10:30-11:15- Clifford and Company, local musician

11:30-12:15: Barbara and Steve Blake, Zydeco music

12:15-1:00: History of the Life Saving Stations on Hatteras Island talk by John Griffin, Chicamacomico Life Saving

1:15-2:00: Bob Zentz, traditional folk music and sea shanties

2:30-3:30: Seafood Throwdown

3:45: Fishing Tournament Awards Ceremony

 

Concrete Marlin Contest

 

The premier competition of the day is the Concrete Marlin Contest.  Professional captains and mates vie against each other and time as they "hook" and "gaff" a concrete cylinder that replicates the weight of a fighting marlin.  It has become so popular that a new division, the Concrete Sailfish, has been added for the younger fishermen.  Time and location TBA.” to “Due to its popularity, a new division for youth was added two years ago, the Concrete Sailfish and this year, a women’s division has also been added.

Working Boats

 

Commercial and charter boats are in the harbor to show your their gear and explain their techniques.

 

The Coast Guard brings its 47 foot Motor Launch for tours and "piloting lessons" for kids!
