The
L. N. Stowe house illustrates a typical arrangement for the kitchen and
dining areas in Hatteras houses, an "ell" attached to the center of the
rear of the main block. The "ell" of the L. N. Stowe house
has a parlor or sewing room, a dining room, and a kitchen. As in
similar houses the kitchen space is very small and narrow. In this
house, a cook house once stood to the rear of the main house. The
L. N. Stowe House has a remarkably intact interior, and retains its original
finishes, trim, staircase, doors with their original hardware and paint,
ceiling, and floors.
