The
Caleb B. Stowe house, has an unusual floor
plan for a house in Hatteras Village. According to family stories,
the house was moved here "with horses and rollers and ropes" in 1888.
The house sits among Live Oak and Cedar trees, and the lot backs
up against Back Creek, providing an access to the sound. ( Click Here

has an "ell" shaped plan, and unlike most village residences, has no central
hall. The house has three rooms on the first floor, with a stair to
the second floor located in the largest downstairs room, which was most
likely used as a parlor. Probably the house originally had a separate
kitchen/dining room building. Still located on the property is a grape
arbor, a small shop building, a building that may have once been the kitchen,
and a family cemetery.

sheathed with plaster board on the first floor, but the second floor
remains unchanged.
