Demos and Dock Chats

There are demonstrations and informational chats for every member of the family...young or older.  Among them are techniques in net fishing,  and net hanging and a fascinating look at the life cycle of a blue crab.  Commercial and charter boat captains are scattered along the docks showing their boats and demonstrating their equipment, and fishing techniques.

Concrete Marlin Contest

The premier competition of the day is the Concrete Marlin Contest.  Professional captains and mates vie against each other and time as they "hook" and "gaff" a concrete cylinder that replicates the weight of a fighting marlin.  It has become so popular that a new division, the Concrete Sailfish, has been added for the younger fishermen.  Time and location TBA.

Net Hanging and Pound Net Display

So few people can make the connection from boat to table.  Capt. Tall Bill VanDruten brings his fishing vessel into the harbor with gear in place and fish in the net.  He gives a fascinating demonstration of the techniques used in net fishing and answers any and all questions.

Local fishermen will have a display to show how pound net fishing works.

Working Boats

Commercial and charter boats are in the harbor to show your their gear and explain their techniques.

The Coast Guard brings its 47 foot Motor Launch for tours and "piloting lessons" for kids!
